Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The program involved participating in sessions covering each division within the bank. As well as this, there were multiple Q&A sessions throughout, networking sessions with grads, previous interns, analysts and directors. There was also a session with Fitch Learning covering the basics of finance, the internal & external operations of an Investment Banks (how each division works) and a focus on general commercial awareness.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was great fun and truly insightful. Having learnt all of this information has given me an insight into how UBS differentiate itself from competitors, how they operate, what divisions match my skill set and emphasises why I'd love to take up a role within the firm.

New, more technical skills, involve the ability to differentiate between the roles of each division and specific roles within those divisions, the structure of M&A deals, an introduction to valuations and the basics of finance.
Softer skills involve teamwork, communication, problem-solving and the like due to the interactive group sessions and tasks we were given as well as the networking sessions focussing on developing interpersonal skills and commercial awareness.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The UBS culture is one of collaboration, innovation and inclusivity. UBS emphasises its DE&I efforts (which far outdates competitors) and draws on these initiatives to shape an internal environment that strikes a balance between competition and growth - this is reflected in the average employee tenure of 9 years (which massively surprised me!).

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight! I was given the opportunity to ask all of my questions, network with employees at the firm and with my peers on the programme, expanding my network.
The fact that the event contained so much info made it even more enjoyable and engaging, making it a tremendous learning experience overall!

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS
Do your research on the firm and learn about not just how successful the bank is or how your division of interest works (it is also good to understand how each division operates and how they rely on/work alongside each other), but to also research the employee satisfaction at UBS. Look into the networks they have, their partners, their initiatives as these are the things that shape the culture ultimately helping you decide as to whether the firm is a good fit for you.
