Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Started as a trainee freighter, working through the initial 15 weeks training program. This involved various phases of training in preparation to continuing the apprenticeship at a dedicated station, and while preforming the role of a fire fighter in development.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Really enjoyed the program of training during the initial 15 week phase. It was well paced and had good instructors. I am finding the station based training is structured slightly differently, the majority of responsibility for learning is self-led which is great and there is plenty of time to get the required work and learning completed. As well as the self-learning there is periodic workshops to support progression and development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Learnt many new skills. How to effectively put up ladders, use different branch techniques when fighting fires, how to manage road side accidents. How to work well in a team, and under pressure, and most importantly how to work safely.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Structure and organisation is good. The initial 15 weeks is very regimented and it's easy to know which phases lead into the other. Depending on learning styles some phases can be overwhelming, but there is good support and there is the opportunity provided to repeat sections if more time is needed to solidify learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support is provided from both the employer and the learning provider and this is split across different phases. The level of support is good from both.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Lots of on-going support
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel the current qualifications acquired have prepared me well for my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there are a lot of extra curricular activities, groups and clubs.
