Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is to be brave, inspiring, fun and nurturing. I love my role as it encourages me to let out my inner child and teach other children life skills. On a day to day basis I observe the children, change nappies, offer comfort, give opportunities and experiences and much more.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy this programme. Coming in on training days inspires me to motivate myself and others around me and to try my very best to achieve the perfect outcome. The support from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is admirable they always make sure we’re ok and ask if we need any help. Their teaching strategies are unique and easy to follow.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of new skills one major one being patience. I have learnt to be more patient with others due to this job and that not everyone will get it right the first time. I’m also learning so much in regards to child development, legal laws, acts and procedures and brain science.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I believe our programme is organised and structured. We receive our deadlines 2/3 weeks in advance which is enough time for us to prepare and hand in our work as well as the daily routine at the academy. Everyone is happy with the structure of the day and we enjoy having our free study sessions in the afternoon.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supportive of my role as an apprentice and always questions what I have learnt in my study days as well as giving me extra information on certain topics which she is strong on.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like I know so much more than I did when I started. I have gained so much important information and really understand children’s behaviour and actions more now which helps me deal with the situation and focus on how to move forward. I have also grown a lot of confidence within myself by speaking to parents.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are so many extra-curricular activities to get involved in at leyf. They give a range of opportunities to join in such as conferences, lectures, events and other training opportunities.
