Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I assist on the audits of multiple engagements within public sector auditing NHS, local government and education entities. Day to day tasks involve general admin tasks on the file, minute/media reviews, internal audit reviews and communications with clients such as walkthroughs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I really enjoy studying and being at college with the other apprentices as we learn a lot together and are very supportive. I sometimes struggle to feel like I belong in the office as it is quite easy to be forgotten about due to the size of the firm.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Through my AAT qualification I have gained lots of new knowledge of accounting and tax which has helped me in my work. At work, I have grown confidence improving my communication skills with colleagues and clients.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well structured, the pathway is set out for you in induction and exams are completed according to that. I think it may be a little more difficult for people who go off pathway (defer exams etc) but for me the experience has been good
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I know I can go to my Performance Manager and Performance Leader if I have any problems
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
During the course the tutors are really good at answering questions and ensuring everyone has a good understanding of the content. After this personally communication is minimal but I know I can email the tutors and use the forums if I needed any extra help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
The knowledge I have gained through my qualification has been useful in giving me a foundational knowledge of accounting and tax however I don't feel like I've fully had the opportunity to utilise these skills fully in my work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there are many opportunities to join sports teams and groups for different cultures. We also have lots of socials to encourage networking

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Although it is quite a competitive environment, the experiences and skills I have gained have be really invaluable and I feel that once I am involved in different types of work I will really thrive here and learn lots.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Research the company thoroughly and consider how you align with the values. Use examples in your own life (education, part time jobs, extra curriculars) to show the skills you already have for example communication, teamwork, time management etc
