Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The role varies as it depends on which placement you are completing, but each role whether operational or office-based provides opportunities to solve challenges, manage individual projects and support other colleagues in different areas of the business. Day to day activities have included chairing meetings, planning implementation of technologies, stakeholder management and more.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It’s an exciting program and business to be part of!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed lots of skills, and learnt lots of new ones.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There’s been some uncertainty around the program as it’s still quite new which has been challenging at times and placements and workload very much depend on the individual placement managers and what they assign you/how they support you etc.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
It’s there when required, however program managers can be quite stretched and so regular meetings are hard to secure.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Plenty. Some variety based on who the lecturer is and what support they provide, but generally the uni is helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Lots of modules directly correlate to areas of the business, as well as general personal reflection and evaluation, so it aligns well!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
The main way to get involved is through volunteering for charity events (often sport-related), as well as volunteering at school/college events. There’s not many social activities, sports team etc since Covid, so hopefully the business encourages these again.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Despite some challenges, it’s a great business and sector to work in and most people end up getting the Aviation Bug! BA is going through lots of transformation currently, so there’s lots of exciting projects and opportunities to get involved in, and staff travel perks are great.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
Think carefully about why you want to work in aviation, but also why specifically British Airways. Think about the direction BA is moving in for the future and how you can help to shape the business and achieve their goals.
