As an aspiring leader apprentice, I have placements around the business that vary from 4-8 months. Each placement is different which makes my role in each different. It allows me to experience different parts of the organisation and identify which departments and tasks I like.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the programme! It has allowed me to network and build professional relationships with multiple colleagues of different authority levels across the business. I am also able to lead projects and be given responsibility and the trust of my manager to manage the project.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my public speaking, project management, business finance, technological, communication, managing people, leading people, developing collaborative relationships, awareness of self and others, management of self and decision making skills.

It is well organised and structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive all the support I need from my employer when I have needed it. I have monthly 1-1s and if I require more than one meeting, I am able to have one. My manager is very approachable and has helped me multiple times.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive support from my course leader and module leaders when I needed it and if I require an extension on assignments, they are super supportive and always willing to help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I find it easier to apply my day-to-day tasks to university for contextualization purposes however, at times I struggle to apply what I learn in university to my day-to-day tasks as it depends on my placement and the projects I am working on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are. Recently, I joined the womens self defense classes that are held after work. Teams across the business have team socials on a monthly basis. There are also many opportunities to attend professional networking events such as summits in central London, etc.

Why?
It is a great place to work with so many opportunities available. No matter where in the business you are, whether operational or in head office, personally no day is the same and there is always something to do and there are so many opportunities to learn new skills.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
Be yourself and showcase your skills / competence and do your research into the apprenticeship and organisation. Also, show that you are aware of your areas of development and how you hope to develop those areas if selected.
