Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I worked as DevOps in an Agile team as part of the SDLC team.
I handled numerous internal applications doing Full Stack Development & CI/CD through the use of the Nomura Devops Module & its Toolchain.
I constantly communicated with my stakeholders from all around the world & transforming their requests into user stories & then JIRA issues.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a lot of responsibility from the get go, empowering me to get my hands on working with apps with 4k-6k active users from all around the world and later with more business critical applications.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I think I received a lot of support and guidance from my manager, buddy and mentor during the placement that has helped me a lot settling into the work I did for Nomura. This was especially important through the begging part of my placement winch was completely online because of Covid.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The general atmosphere was very positive and people keen to netowrk, share their work or professional experience or provide advice or guidance. Every Thursday, there is a Drinks on the Terrace event where everybody from Nomura is welcome to come socialize, relax or network. Besides this, there are numerous events or activities team can do.

I really enjoyed my placement and Nomura is definitely a place where I would like to come back to where I learned a lot both technical wise and people wise.
