Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is within the M&A tax team and primarily involves driving the project forward this includes drafting questions to Management, reviewing original documentation and drafting our report deliverable. As part of my job I am also responsible for the admin of the project and to ensure everything is properly documented on EYI MD.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the people in my team, who are always so approachable and willing to answer all of my tax technical questions. Additionally, the team has gone to the effort to explain everything to me so that I can understand not only what we're doing but why we're doing it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes I have learnt new soft skills as well as tax technical skills. I have improved on my communication skills with having to contact quite senior people at the Target's Management as well as improving my time management skills through utilising new technologies such as MS Copilot. I have also improved my tax technical skills through both project work and on the job training.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well structured, there are regular training sessions on topics very relevant for my job, and EY appoints everyone a counsellor who is there for our personal development and professional development. I have regular catch-ups with my counsellor and get regular feedback on how I am performing and what I need to do to improve.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from EY, specifically my team. Everyone in the team including partners are very willing to help out and explain concepts to me and are able to support me. EY also provides every new joiner with a buddy to help support and guide them through the first few months and joining EY.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
EY gives us time off to study the course material for our ICAS qualification and they also give us study days as revision before our exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps me to understand the basics of accountancy and the basics of tax which gives me the fundamental knowledge to support me in doing my job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have been involved in running professional networking events at EY Assessment Centres. Additionally, my M&A tax team has socials which I attend.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The work culture is great as the people especially in tax are so welcoming and wishing for you to succeed so will do everything they can to involve you in projects, get you up to speed and answer your questions. Additionally, EY provides exposure to some great clients which bring in very interesting and challenging work, striving us to push to be better professionals.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Do your research about the company and the program and choose the program that's right for you. Personally I prefer tax to audit as we get to deal with a wider variety of clients and immediately when you join you get straight into tax technical work. And keep asking questions, asking questions and challenging others is the only way we grow. The better the question, the better the answer, the better the world works.
