Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The Digital Learning Lead role focuses on creating and implementing digital learning strategies that align with the business and organisational goals. This is realised through content creation, technology integration, project management, collaboration, evaluation and training delivery. Main duties include designing and developing engaging digital learning content including e-learning modules, videos, and interactive activities; leveraging various technologies and platforms to enhance learning experiences; overseeing the development and delivery of digital learning projects, working closely with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to ensure content accuracy and relevance; and to assess the effectiveness of digital learning programmes through data analysis and feedback.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have been on-programme since February 2025, and I am planned to be completed by July 2026. I have had a fantastic onboarding experience to my apprenticeship and have liked being able to interact with and share experiences with other digital learning design professionals in the cohort I am studying with. It is valuable and useful to connect with others in the field, share best practice, and benchmark in similar roles and industries. I have enjoyed the level of detail in the programme, the variety of learning modalities, as well as developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for my role, and I am now starting to put my learning into practice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Skills that I am developing include communication with stakeholders and subject matter experts, project management, gathering and analysing requirements and data to support learning design approaches, selecting and applying appropriate learning theories and instructional design models to inform digital learning design outputs, selecting and using distinct platforms and tools to design, develop, and implement digital learning products and experiences. Furthermore, organising and managing digital assets on a learning platform is key to my role as well as evaluating the effectiveness of digital learning in achieving intended learning objectives.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured into 8 main modules that are easy to understand and clearly defined. The virtual classrooms help to explore the learning in a live environment with group activities, case studies, and discussions led by an expert tutor. This alongside e-learning modules, self-study, coaching sessions and additional learning means there is a holistic and engaging approach to learning. There is also significant support and preparation activities for the end point assessment that is available throughout the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I am receiving ongoing support from my line manager, learning and development peers, the people team, the wider business and the stakeholders I work with. This is in the form of great conversations, taking the opportunity to reflect on my learnings, and looking for and receiving feedback throughout my development journey.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The online learning platform is a great resource to have access to, and this enhances my learning experience by providing tracking and learning in digestible modules, structured and in-depth, as well as providing a comprehensive overview of the progress I have been making. The virtual classrooms provide the best forum for connecting with my cohort and tutor, as well as the regular one-to-one sessions with my development coach.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The knowledge, skills and behaviours that I am developing through studying and working towards this qualification have already helped boost my confidence in my role and supplement the knowledge that I can bring to my work. I am already achieving better performance and outcomes, and I have greater certainty of my strengths and my career path options.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of internal events to participate in that are open to all, and they can add to your exposure within the business and offer a chance to meet new people. That is an exciting part of a people professional role! Externally, there are industry events that you can attend and third-party providers for masterclasses and webinars for extending your own development.

Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I joined Poundland as a referral - and it's something I would highly recommend. I have joined a business with the right values to live by. The people that I work with directly and those that are part of the wider team are truly amazing, and recognition and celebration of success is something that always stands out to me working here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
We have a fantastic people team that supports the whole business, and we have a clear set of core values and behaviours that guide us all, no matter what our role is. My biggest piece of advice is to be yourself and there is a place for everyone at Poundland.
