Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The 2 weeks programme involved various activities such as technical training, industry panels as well as desk rotations. The firm week of the internship was more about us building an understanding about the division and some technical knowledge as well as knowing about the firm and its involvement in various missions. The second week was more about rotating across different desks and preparing a group project that was presented to our mentors. In the last day, we had 3 back to back interviews but they were more to know us better as individuals.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The rotations were really helpful to understand what the division encompasses. Within this short amount of time, I had the opportunity to rotate across 9 different desks in sales, trading and structuring. The desk captains were so helpful and made a great effort to help us know more about their day to day job and which skillset is required for their role. The partner panels helped us get a high level view of the business and the big development that it is undertaking.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
As I come from a non-finance background, it was very important for me to go through basics first before starting the rotations. I think that the training we had was very interactive and helped us grasp the essential concepts in a very interactive way. Moreover, I believe that the rotations we went through helped me build a solid understanding of the division and try to identify which roles would suit me and interest me best.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
One great thing I learned about Goldman is everyone is willing to help you. The spring was challenging, yet very insightful and I believe that it is mainly due to the fact that everyone is willing to take from their time to help you and answer your questions. Networking was ver much encouraged and we were advised to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the company culture from its different people.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The insight definitely exceeded my expectations. When I first heard that it is going to be virtual, I had some doubts, but once I started, I really felt that the team made great efforts to help us get an immersed experience to learn more about the business and the company. I really enjoyed how structured the spring was and how I was able to learn more about the firm from seniors leaders and hear their experiences.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Goldman Sachs Group
I would say, definitely apply early. Even though you see that the deadline is within months, do not wait till last minute. Always try to apply as soon as possible given that your application is ready. Also make sure to take time to write your cover letter as it will be a determining factor to process to the video interview stage. A good advice to learn more about the firm would be reaching out to some connections you have working there (for instance graduates from your university through linkedIn).
