Ground Operations Work Experience Review

I was met with different areas of the Ground Operations team each day such as spending time with Aircraft Dispatchers and shadowing their role and learning about their responsibilities to being able to spend the day with baggage and loading as well as line engineers.

I absolutely loved it.
It was more interactive than I would have ever thought, each day we were on our feet doing something different and no day was ever the same. The staff at BA were amazing and enthusiastic to show us around and ensured we understood everything!

Each day we had an itinerary of what we would be doing and what we would be visiting. It looked a bit like:
Day 1 - Heathrow T5 Tour
Day 2 - Dispatch
Day 3 - Control Centre and Baggage
Day 4 - Pushback and Loading
Day 5 - Line Maintenance
The plan for the week was flexible as well, our mentor tried his best to accommodate anything we wanted to see, such as pushback which he managed to fit in@

I always had a passion for aviation, however this work experience opened my eyes up to the different avenues within aviation that I previously didn't know about. I now have a solid understanding of the different areas of aviation and I'm looking deeper into those roles that I learnt about to possibly pursue them in the future!

During my time at British Airways I got to see that their company values are constantly upheld and practiced, creating a safe space and friendly community for everyone. The staff are all friendly and made me feel as if I was part of the team and everyone was super accommodating.

It gave me a great insight into aviation and helped me decide on a future career path in aviation. Apart from Ground Operations, there are so many other opportunities for work experience such as engineering, finance, data science and much more so it fits the needs of so many others who are interested in areas that are more analytical or technical!
