Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
Performance of Audit Procedures on Financial Statements.
High volume of teamwork internally as well as external communications with audit client
Responsibilities vary from audit to audit depending, however general expectation that you provide coaching, and small level of project management over your focus areas.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
Learning about new and interesting industries is enjoyable, and more complex problem solving can also be enjoyable. It can be repetitive as in any office job.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Audit is unlike anything I had done before. A lot of technical skills gained, be that client specific knowledge, accounting knowledge, excel. Good development of teamworking and problem solving skills, as well as communication.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Program is well structured, with blocks of college for both initial tuition and revision to allow you time to specifically focus on exams. The learning provider in particular is very good with the structure of learning and resources available.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Support is there, everyone is assigned a counsellor who is there to back your corner when you need it, and this helps on the work side of things. The learning provider is more helpful for exams, and will offer lots of support and resources.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider is very good. Teaching and resources are high quality. The tutors are often available outside of specified learning time for any questions regarding exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The knowledge gained is useful, audit is about reviewing financial statements so the accountancy exams are relevant and the skills are used in the workplace. Not all exam knowledge is relevant (management accounting, tax for example) but will be useful if you go into practice later.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Lots of extra curricular activities. The office has a designated social team that organizes regular events, there a larger office-wide events such as summer and Christmas party, and individual teams will often have socials to celebrate key milestones in the audit. Sports teams also exist (5-a-side, Badminton for example).

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Its tough, I think the grad scheme is slightly more attractive as you move through it faster. But it being tough and being EY is very good for future prospects, it opens up all doors to you once you qualify.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Be confident and be yourself when applying - you're not expected to know anything about audit coming into the firm so your application is very much a showcase for why EY should hire you as a person not a worker. Consider that there will be points where you are working overtime, but this does peak and trough.
