Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I support the teachers in preparing for lessons and assisting them in the teaching. I work with a small group of children most days, really encouraging their personal development.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

You have a lot of responsibility when working with young people but it just makes you feel more passionate about your role.

As well as working on the children’s progress, City Year encourages Volunteers personal/professional development through learning and development sessions.
I have personally had the opportunity to really develop my public speaking and leadership skills thanks to these sessions.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I was heavily supported by my Impact Officer and School Service Leader, as well as all the staff within the school. You are never alone in the experience, especially with your team who are all going through it all with you.
