Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an electrical engineer in powertrain, chassis and electronics validation at Rolls Royce Motor Cars, I am responsible for ensuring that the vehicles produced by the company meet the necessary safety, reliability and performance standards. On a daily basis, I am involved in testing and validation of various electrical systems and components, conducting analyses of data generated from these tests, collaborating with other teams to identify and resolve any issues, and documenting the results and findings for future reference. Additionally, I am required to attend meetings and provide updates on the progress of my work to relevant stakeholders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying my apprenticeship programme so far. Having a large apprentice cohort has been great, as I have made many friends and feel a strong sense of community within the workplace. The pay is also really good, which has been a bonus. I find my work to be very interesting, which makes it easier for me to stay engaged and motivated.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
In my role as an electrical engineer in powertrain, chassis and electronics validation at Rolls Royce Motor Cars, I have developed several new skills. These include proficiency in various testing methodologies, data analysis and interpretation techniques, as well as familiarity with industry-specific software and tools. I have also enhanced my communication and collaboration skills through frequent interactions with other teams and stakeholders. Furthermore, I have gained an in-depth understanding of the automotive industry, including the latest trends, technologies and regulations. All these skills have enabled me to perform my job more effectively and contribute to the success of the company.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well structured. In my first year I spend 3 days at work and 2 at university which gives me plenty of time to develop my knowledge. This will drop to just 1 day at university in later years to encourage more progression, through extra time spent at work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive plenty of support from my employer. They have invested in me to do extra courses i.e. German lessons to allow me to better fulfill my role. They allow me extra time in the work place to get my university assignments finished if I am struggling. A real effort has been made to incorporate me into as many parts of our work as possible.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The University have been supportive throughout the induction period into work. They have carefully managed the workload so as not to overwhelm us initially. The course is three years long but we have been allowed 4 years to complete it in order to account for out part time learning format.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Getting a degree in electrical engineering is highly useful for my role as an electrical engineer in powertrain, chassis, and electronics validation at Rolls Royce Motor Cars. With a degree in electrical engineering, I gain a deep understanding of the principles and practices of electrical systems, which are essential for designing, testing, and validating the electrical systems and components of automobiles. Additionally, I can develop critical skills such as problem-solving, data analysis, and communication, which are crucial for my success in my role. Ultimately, obtaining a degree in electrical engineering helps me enhance my knowledge, skills, and expertise, making me a valuable asset to my company.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Rolls Royce Motor Cars have several extra curricular activities and societies going on, on a weekly basis. There are plenty of football training sessions and small games to get involved with alongside a golf society and much more. Departments often have social nights out and trips to bring departments together.
