Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy learning broad engineering skills at college, working towards a qualification to return to my Network Rail depot to specifically train within my job role. Incorporating more railway engineering within the first rail of the apprenticeship could be an improvement.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned a basic understanding and skills of various engineering sectors. I have learned both theoretical and practical sections of engineering.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured well to carry out college work within the first year. However, some job specific training and knowledge could be added within the first year apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Apprenticeship coaches within the company regularly check in with apprentices, and provide contact details for any help that is needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The staff within the training centre teach the course well. However, the course schedule could be better balanced.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I have learned a broad understanding of engineering, however I don't believe I will carry on most of this knowledge to to my specified role in railway engineering.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
None so far.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
Learning the safety aspects of working on the railway, such as Network Rail's lifesaving rules, is important as safety is Network Rail's priority.
