Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves me following training given to me within the sewing department in order to learn the role of a sewing associate. Alongside this I completed a level 2 lean manufacturing course at Chichester college to help me gain an understanding of production and theories such as 5S. Once completing my sewing training, I began completing placements outside of my department, giving me a deeper understanding and useful insights to the company.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme, I think college and the workplace are well balanced, giving enough time to study along with apply the learning within the working environment. There has been many extra activities, tasks and projects that I have been able to get involved in which gives the programme variety.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills within my time at Rolls-Royce motor cars and Chichester College. Not only have I developed my soft skills, I have also improved hard skills and have massively expanded my knowledge within the company. Chichester college has taught me an abundance of knowledge about manufacturing, production an other applicable skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Organisation and structure is unfortunately not always great in my programme. Although it is evident that the apprentice advisors and college tutors make the effort to try and maintain a higher level of organisation, I feel they are not always given the support, time and resources to do so - which needs to be improved. I feel the training provider and higher management at RRMC should be investing more time into the apprentice scheme and communicating more frequently.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I feel that I receive a large amount of support from my employer, my apprentice advisor is always available to help me when I contact him and often catches up with me to see how I am getting on and if I need any additional support. I always feel comfortable asking my managers, trainers and advisors for support and feel confident they will be able to assist me when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My tutor at Chichester college is brilliant, he goes the extra mile with us to ensure we have everything we need and a full understanding of the work we need to complete. If we need to contact him at any time, he is always there to answer and is happy to put in extra time for us if need be. We also have regular catch ups with him.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My lean manufacturing course has helped me perform better in my role as it is relevant and applicable to my role in plant directly. Not only is it relevant to my original role, it has helped me when moving around the plant as I have been able to apply my knowledge to these roles too.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of extra curriculum activities to get involved in at work, from school events, webinars, career fairs, tours, assessment centre support, presentations and team building. These help me improve my soft skills and gain knowledge from others around me. I would suggest we have more apprentice network events as these are not very frequent.
