Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Working in the maintenance department as a controls engineer apprentice to keep production machinery and systems running. Responding to breakdowns and problem solving
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The work aspect is enjoyable however the university side is not. In work i learn a lot more on the job than in lessons, and the quality of teaching is not worth the travel to birmingham

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
i have learnt lots of practical electrical skills including wiring and testing for safe isolations. I have also learnt about computer systems and programming on TIA.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The organisation could be improved, often problems are met with a reaction to the issue instead of preemptive solutions when it is an upcoming issue.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive good support in the workplace from colleagues or mentors regarding work projects and daily tasks. i have had support from the apprentice department regarding uni but not always to acheive a good solution.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Little support from the uni, when asking for some flexibility there was none provided and was difficult to even contact them to ask. Often courses are arranged with the full-time students in mind and not part-time, not allowing us much time to do tasks or have breaks in between lessons.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I dont find the qualification relevant in day to day work, however there have been occasions i have used knowledge from uni in work. The qualification will be more useful for career development.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
The work environment has a few arranged sports teams etc. I have also recently attended a networking event for others in my role.
