Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We arrived in the Canary Wharf KPMG office and heard from many senior KPMG workers about their particular jobs and previous clients. We had constant Q&A sessions. There was then a team based case study activity which we were able to present to senior staff. We also talked to graduates, had a coding class and a tech panel focusing on getting women into technological roles.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was so interesting hearing from senior staff and all the graduates because with consultancy there is so much differentiation in the different projects. Therefore it was incredibly exciting to hear about everything the employees have worked on. We also learnt a lot about additional opportunities in KPMG like volunteering, their environmental schemes and their dedicated efforts to giving equal opportunities to minorities.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
In KPMG communication and team work is important so I learnt a lot about group discussion and also asking questions to build insight into the business. We learnt about the qualities desired at KPMG and was able to see how our own qualities fit into these, like innovation, desire for quality results and curiosity.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere was amazing, it almost felt like a family. The culture is clear that they really care about their employees, with all the opportunities and also their approach to maternity leave, which couldn't be more considerate. Overall you really feel like their care more about your wellbeing than profits.

I enjoyed the insight to the highest level possible. I can't imagine having a more interesting and valuable experience. My expectations were beyond exceeded.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG
Ensure you have done a lot of research on KPMG and why you want to go there. They want to know that KPMG is the only place you want to be and that you really understand the business and community. In interviews they also care a lot more about your values syncing with their desired values than experiences you have had in the past.
