Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in international tax advisory in which my current role entails day to day engagement admin, preparation of tax memos, attending and writing minutes for client meetings
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the project work and like the team that I work in which is very friendly. I enjoy the opportunity of being able to work with big clients and understand the inner workings of their business

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my apprenticeship I have grown far more able to use microsoft 365 applications, developed my time management skills, communication skills, ability to read and understand caselaw and gained more proficiency in tax legislature
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Any training sessions are always organised in advance, any last minute cancellations such as for the reason of illness are always adapted to well. The order of the training sessions means that they complement eachother nicely and allow a balance of learning and on the job work
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I always feel sufficiently supported by my employer and having a friendly team certainly helps with that. I am able to air my concerns to those higher up in the team and they take their time to explain concepts to me that feel foreign
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My counsellor and team are respectful of the fact that I need to focus during college time and emphasise that the qualification is the most important thing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The training provided through my training provider feeds into my every day role by allowing me a deeper understanding of the world of tax which can be tricky to navigate. Whilst I believe that the course could be better tailored to the individual teams, the courses do well (in my opinion) in allowing us to see a more holistic view of tax.

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The reasons I would recommend EY are: support in professional qualifications, a work culture which encourages more direct communication with those higher up in your team, flexibility and understanding when something goes wrong, breadth of work, opportunities that you get (for example to work on big projects with big clients)
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Make sure that you properly research the department you want to apply for before submitting your application, research the firm and their values before the first stage and keep your mind sharp with frequent practice before taking the entrance test, be yourself and friendly in later stage interviews and assessments, show that you are proactive and interested in the business which EY operates in
