Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work with employee's data. I use Oracle, Excel, Word, Outlook. I can update employee's personal information and also add new starters for PSE employee's, i ensure their salary, bank details, role, address etc is correct.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
We learn a lot in the workshops and it has been good meeting new people and knowing theres 9 other people in the same situation as you because theres 10 apprentices. However the workload is quite a lot from the apprentice academy tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Ive learnt how to use Oracle and improved my knowledge in Excel and Word. My writing skills have developed professionally as i can confidently write professional emails and answer queries. I have also learnt about business, ethics, supply chain etc in the workshops.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Its good, we spent a couple of days together at the beginning with our apprentice manager to get set up and have things explained better so we get an understanding of what is coming. The apprentice academy hasnt fully explained the assessments etc so ive mostly relied on the past apprentices at Network rail.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As much as i need/ask for. We have their email and teams so can contact anytime.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We have meeting with Emma and have her email so we are able to ask for help when needed and she is very helpful. We also receive the powerpoints from Michelle after the workshops.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Some of the tasks help me understand the organisation i work for, we also have workshops which give us an understanding of businesses as a whole. I rely more on my team at network rail to help me in my role though.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
yes they have notices on screens around the offices, we have volunteer days, we also go over activities in our team meeting. there are also emails sent out by people to let everyone know.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Its a good company to work for, it is quite flexible if you have certain problems and they are understanding. They have friendly people all over, i have made friends in my team and also outside of my team.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
Ask any questions you need to even if its double checking something as it can be important if you make a mistake, also make notes when someone is training you so you have them to follow when you do the processes by yourself. Try and get apprentice work done ASAP because you can get busy throughout the week.
