Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
The role is an audit associate. This involves completing tasks on the audit to support the work done, as well as interacting with the client. You have responsibility to complete areas of audit assigned to you by a senior or manager. For training, you study at college and complete exams on accounting. At the end of the apprenticeship, you become a qualified CA.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the job as there are many opportunities to connect with colleagues. There is a support network in the office, as seniors are required to coach and train new employees. Managers and other members of the audit engagement team are happy to answer questions, which makes the job more enjoyable and doable when training. The tutors from ICAS are engaging and make the exam study more enjoyable. There is support available during exam study which makes the learning more manageable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Learnt new accounting skills, leadership, communication, and time management skills. Existing skills are developed from university, using study skills to pass accounting exams. New skills are learnt on the job and tested in daily interactions, required for progressing in the job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
There is a very strong structure to the program. There is a training session at the start of each year with the company. There are very clear expectations of the job role and responsibilities. There are clear set times at which you go to college to study, with ICAS these are blocks where no work is done in the office to allow time for studying.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5

We have regular meetings with our counsellor (personal manager) to catch up on job progress.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The tutors from ICAS are engaging and make the exam study more enjoyable. There is support available during exam study which makes the learning more manageable. Tuition providers are able to answer questions. There is some self-study required on the course, which means the support is less readily available.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification provides essential accounting knowledge and skills required for audit. There are audit modules within the course which provides training on audit which is extremely helpful for the job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many networks available at EY, such as book club, lots of different sports (especially during the summer), and regular social events within the office. The office celebrates different cultural events and holidays in the office, growing a sense of community across employees with different backgrounds.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The daily work is interesting as well as challenging. There are lots of new opportunities available on each audit. You gain a wide range of experience in industries by auditing different companies' financial statements. There is career progression through the company. The professional qualification is also useful for career prospects outside of the company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
The most important thing about working at this company is your attitude. There may be challenges that you face, whether that is with exams or in the daily job, but you need to persevere and be able to collaborate with others to help your own professional development.
