Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Day to day involves regular review of current concepts, particularly when quality concerns are raised by suppliers / 3rd party providers. Problem solving to reduce packaging damages, whilst maximising cost effectiveness for the company. This is BAU. Larger projects may include developing new packaging and transport concepts for future models, or developing more bespoke logistics solutions for low volume items. Interactions will involve the direct team, quality teams from external providers, suppliers and any other stakeholders in the supply chain, for example, the direct area receiving the packaging for the assembly line.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I tend to enjoy the programme. My work day is never the same twice and this keeps it interesting and engaging. I am always pushed to do as well as I can.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Logistics management skills. Developed learning of Microsoft office suite. Time management and project planning.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It can be quite messy at times. My project reviews can be very random, and I have a HR department dedicated for apprentices, which can feel smothering. Especially because they take so many things into consideration to hit 6-monthly pay rises and the communication between my line manager and hr manager can be muddy. There seems to be a discord between university and HR too, with little communication outside of my 3 monthly reviews - university never seem to keep my employer up to date - they just take my word for things.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive plenty of support from Line managers and HR managers to push myself and find the right role which is appropriate for me. After some conversations, we have come to agreement on the best way to support reaching the next promotion, which was previously slightly confusing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
University of Portsmouth is attentive with me personally, however as aforementioned, little communication between UoP and RR other than my reviews it seems. Very mixed bag of lecturers, some are fantastic and supportive, some are simply death by powerpoint.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Project management qualification if quite useful in some ways. The core principles often do translate, but in practice, actual RR process is very different from what we are taught. Still, it is good to get the background theory.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are a few company wide teams for various things but I have formed my own friendships independent of this. Monthly team socials happens.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The money is good for the role, the line manager support is generally very good, and the training provider, if UoP, provides a solid standard of education.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
When working here, push yourself, and there will be plenty of opportunities to move around, try new things and find bigger and better roles. You will grow with what you put in. Networking will aid you in this process, as it is a wide business, however you will need time to settle into a role too.
