Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As an audit trainee at BDO, I support various audits from different sectors to gain insight and build my knowledge of how to carry out an audit within its different intricacies. I spent the first 3 months studying for exams and then the next 3 months after that solely working not having to worry about my exams, which was a great way to introduce us to audit without the pressure or work + study at the same time.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I actually quite enjoy my programme and much prefer it to the uni route as i am getting paid whilst being able to make strong friendships and still have that downtime in the evenings and the weekends. However, sometime sit's based on luck as you may get a strenuous audit allocated to you for a couple weeks which may ask for overtime and then get put on another thats a lot less strict

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills including the ability to be in charge of my own sections in an audit, effectively work in a team and to work through efficiently on digital platforms like Excel

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is highly scheduled, as we know when our next exams will be 6 months in advance, and we are constantly told about the journey of our course for the next 2-3 years to come.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from BDO through my people manager as he is always available to help
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I haven't had to ask for much support form the training provider, only when we have the occasionally study sessions and in those periods they are very helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I haven't been able to see a direct correlation with the content as of yet, but in terms of the behaviours and time management skills i have to build, it does help
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have created a very good social network where we are able to go out a couple times after work, I have also requested to join the Training group social events committee

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are overall very supportive and highly professional. It is an amazing firm that puts the people first and i am yet to see an audit team that are in any way mean. They are a lot less strenuous than the Big 4 are made out to be, but still have so much exposure to the same companies that any of the Big 4 would audit.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
Go for it! BDO is a great place to work, just make sure you represent yourself in any interviews as you belong in the firm.
