Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves me working along side a mentor in the Rolls-Royce Exterior Surface Finishing Centre where I spend time in different departments in the Paint Shop understanding the processes involved with preparation of the vehicles all the way through to the finished painted and polished shells ready for the production line.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

So far I am very much enjoying the programme as it has provided me with a new range of skills and knowledge in Paint Spraying, my college course has been very beneficial on the practical side of things relating to paint spraying, I am really enjoying the many placements I've had the opportunity to have in the several departments within Paint Shop.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting the Apprenticeship, I have developed a Range of new skills such as Vehicle paint preparation in surface preparation, sanding, paint application, spraying techniques, two-tone application and a range of knowledge that the apprenticeship has provided for me so far.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think my programme has been well structured regarding my placements within Paint Shop and my home departments to. I do think that some of my placements time scales could be reviewed regarding how long I spend in each department to really get the most out of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There is always support from my Employer and manager if I require it and I know where to go to if support is needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is plenty of support available and Rolls-Royce have provided a good college to allow me to achieve my level 3 Qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Yes because it has allowed me to gain much more knowledge and skills which I can apply to my role in the Paint Shop, helping me get the most out of the apprenticeship.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are plenty of activities to get involved with.

Because it is a great company to get involved with and work for and the Apprenticeships available are really incredible, and the experience you get from the apprenticeship really is amazing.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Just make sure that you understand the Rolls-Royce models and processes involved in the company, ensure that you are being yourself and be as confident as you can be, they want you to just be you.
