Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As part of my role, I shadow technicians within the machining area at Hams Hall. Every 4 months I will transfer and learn a different line with a different team of technicians to help me learn how different machines work and network with different people. If there is a job, I will watch and learn on how it is approached and repaired, or, i will be asked to take part or carry out the job under supervision.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I absolutely love every minute of my apprenticeship. I have met and spoke to lots of amazing people who are more than happy to help me and teach me new skills that I can keep for life. I have no regrets in going for an apprenticeship and i am only looking forwards.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned to be more confident when speaking to people and to never be afraid to approach new people. I have learnt how to approach different issues with machinery such as fault finding or testing different parts of a machine. I have learnt to be more independent and use my initiative before asking for assistance when approaching an issue.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
In the college, the structure is slightly messed up as there is a lack of teachers or missing assignment briefs. The lecturers are more than happy to help. With regards to BMW, there is a well thought out plan to help plan and guide yourself through the apprenticeship. Your progress is checked and meetings are scheduled where you can highlight any concerns you may have.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have lots of support from my employer. If there is ever an issue they are more than happy to help me. If i am struggling with a subject during college, they are more than happy to speak to me and form a plan to help me make sure i stay on track.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Depending on the task during the assignment, the lecturers will assist us as much as they can without giving us the answers.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel as if the practical side of the qualification helps me more to understands concepts i will need for my role as i am more of a visual learner and can understand issue if I see them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lost of activities i can take part in such as a BMW football team, apprentice newsletters to share experiences of different apprentices all over the UK; the MOVE programme where apprentices are sent to other plant internationally and many more. It is always worth asking for other opportunities to get your name out there and learn something new.

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There are so many positives when working at such a big company such as meeting lots of new and friendly people. Being able to tell someone that you work for such an esteemed company makes me very proud of myself. If you manage to stay at BMW after the apprenticeship, you will have a job for life and can still explore different roles and opprotunities.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Just go for it, you have nothing to lose and you will not regret working at BMW. Everyone you speak to will want to see you succeed. Do not be afraid to come out of your comfort zone and try something new.
