To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I think there is a great balance between work and study, one day release a week lets me manage my tasks and responsibilities in the workplace and implement the knowledge I am gaining from University.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Every day I develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours as an apprentice, my team provide me with great experience to build on this. The main skill I can reflect on developing is confidence in the work that I produce.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The support system around the apprentices is great, there is a clear pathway and set of expectations, and most importantly contacts of who to go to for advice / support. I know if I have any queries about the steps involved or progression I will be able to get an answer.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive lots of support - my workplace try to tailor certain tasks and responsibilities at work to mirror what I am learning at University to aid my knowledge and experience.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a good amount of support from the university, my tutor is incredibly helpful and most of my lecturers take the time to ensure the class fully understands what is set out.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Yes, I feel what I learn in University is often applicable to what I am doing in the workplace - this allows me to understand tasks provided better and perform better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

yes, there are lots of opportunities to socialise and engage in extra curricular activities, there is a football team, we often all go for dinners after work for team morale, there is social value such as volunteering in charity shops/animal shelters, we are also part of CECA and attend CICES events

Why?
I think it is an incredibly supportive and positive place to work - the team I am on is great, the apprenticeship program is clear, there is a definitive ladder of progression to follow and the company offer lots of perks that others would not offer their apprentices.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to VolkerWessels?
There is a portal on the website which shows vacancies by the area and role, there is also pathways and descriptions of what each job does - it is a good idea to study this and make sure you know it is what you want to do before applying.
