Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role is a degree quality apprentice, I am being trained to cover lots of different subjects that allow me to have the basic skills to go into the plant in my second year and begin working placements in my area. On a day-to-day basis I am at college, each block we do four different subjects. I am currently on my second block.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy the programme I'm on. The theory day is a long day full of lectures and hard work, it is tiring but after just receiving my results for my assignments, I am glad that I've worked so hard. I really enjoy going in to plant and getting experience with my colleagues and learning about their career journeys.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Going into this apprenticeship, I had a lot of experience in classrooms but a complete lack of experience with practical subjects and hands on skills. For example, electronics, lathe, hand fitting, maintenance, fluid power are just some of the many subjects I've covered so far this year. I have also developed my computing and presenting skills further.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There is a structure in place, which for me as a level 6 apprentice is: 1 year at college full time, 2nd year is college one day a week and the rest at plant, 3rd year is one day a week at university and the rest at plant, and the same for the 4th year. I don't think that the first year full time at college is a good idea, I sometimes feel a bit of a distance when at college. The college is also quite disorganised but the employers do come in and push for improvement.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I do feel very supported by my employers, I wanted to go back into my old school and encourage the students to think about the different routes they can take and give more information on the apprenticeship option, I was fully supported and encouraged by my employer to do this. Also, when I have challenges at college they definitely have my back.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I think there could be an improvement with this because we do not have enough time during college to be able to complete work, I find myself having to do a lot of work at home and on the weekends too. Although, when I had an exam they organised me to come into plant and have a quiet room where i could revise and get myself prepared.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I don't know much about this yet because we haven't spent much time at plant. However, since starting the quality module on my theory days, the last time i went to plant i felt that i understood a lot more of the different topics that they discussed and somethings they taught me i did have a basic understanding of. A lot of the subjects don't really correlate with my job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are a few different things that we can take part in. I am a part of the charity team. Every two weeks we discuss and plan new events to raise money for the companies charity. We also get to network with the other plants because of this. I know there are sports things too but not too sure what they are.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
`I would recommend it to anyone, i think that the perks i get are really good. It's allowing me to help support my mom and sisters at home. I do think that i would mention that it is a lot of hard work but i do feel that it pays off.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
There is a lot of advice i would give, i would suggest that they try and get work experience and try and get as much information out of that as they can. This also helps them network so they can gain tips and advice that might help them to gain skills that the employers will look for during the application process.
