Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
in the first year, which I am currently in, I am full time at college where we do a variety of courses such as hydraulics, PLC programming, Workshop skills and much more. On a Thursday we have our "BTEC" day where we do mainly theory work such as electrical principles, materials, etc..
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy the programme as it ensures no one is left behind with work and is kept up to date with assignments and knowledge. The tutors at college are very supportive and if you are struggling are more than willing to help you get the knowledge to complete the tasks set.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills as I have come straight into this apprenticeship from secondary school, It is a big change, however, I believe its been a good change. You get the usual change of going from a school to college but you also get the change of environment, what would usually just seem as a class is now a family as we are co-workers yet very close friends at the same time.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
So far it has been structured very much like secondary school, we have had half terms yet at the same time had the freedom of booking off our own holidays as long as we are up to date with the work that has been set. We rotate through subjects well only moving subject once we have completed the last.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have weekly meetings with our direct apprentice manager and if we have any problems that are urgent we can text them any time and get a quick and helpful response that leads to the issue being solved, typically within the day that the problem had been flagged up with them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We get a lot of support off of the apprentice manager at college, We know where there office is and he very approachable. I had a problem with at the college and raised it up with them and it was sorted within an hour and so i would say they are very helpful and are very willing to help which is always helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think all the information we are given during our time in the college helps us fit into any role at BMW. As a maintenance engineer i have learnt many problem solving and fault finding skills that enable me to do my job with efficiency and perfection, however, I can also go into being a controls engineer with my knowledge of PLC programming and electrical principles knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At the beginning of the apprenticeship we went on a weeks trip away to a place called Skern Lodge in north Devon with all of the other plants in the UK where we were able to build networks and build strong friendships within our own plant too which I feel will be useful further down the line

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are very supportive with any issue you may be having and there is a big sense of freedom with when you can book your holiday days off which is also a bonus for people that might travel a lot. The people they select for the apprenticeship are all very friendly and kind and so it is a very nice environment to be in
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
It is very important to be yourself as in our values Truthfulness is pushed a lot and also ensure that you are a good team player as this will always be appreciated and makes you stand out compared to others that may not be so good in a team, and always be confident whilst applying to ensure that you bring your best.
