Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a level 6 Engineering Technician Apprentice, currently in year two. I spend four days a week in placement and one day a week in the training school for my academic studies. The placements I have completed so far are based in total vehicle quality. I will be completing my foundation degree this year and moving on to start my top up degree.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme a whole. An apprenticeship is a great balance between working and studying. I really enjoy being able to be productive everyday and learn my job role as well as studying towards my degree. I take great pleasure in going to work everyday and constantly learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned lots of new skills and developed on existing skills. In my placement I have been learning how the quality department functions and the different systems/equipment that are used. In my academic studies I have been learning new modules for my foundation degree and completing both assignments and exams.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My employer has given great support throughout my apprenticeship. Progressing from the first year to the second year there has been less involvement from the apprentice managers as we have been working in our placements. The academic studies are fairly well organized but course content is not always clear.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The apprentice training team provide great support for apprentices. There is always someone available to contact for any questions and queries. We receive regular business updates and are given the opportunity to discuss any topics as a group.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support from my training provider has been good. We have experienced issues with the course content for multiple modules over the two years and have been able to give feedback on the issues. We have had the opportunity to speak to staff from the college and discuss problems that we have.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification with my training provider had been beneficial to me for my role in the business. The engineering course content somewhat relates to the content of my job role. I have been using the practical skills from year one in my placement.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are some opportunities to get involved with extra-curricular activities. I do not participate myself but I am aware of opportunities to take part in sports activities. The activities are organized by apprentices and interns.
