Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a second year apprentice and our job role involves completing college work one day a week and the rest of the working week I am out on placement around the plant. The work I do consists of helping the maintenance team as they maintain the plant and making sure that everything is running smoothly
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme a reasonable amount as it offers a good balance in college work and also practical work. It also helps that the college and practical work are all done on the same site in oxford. Most of the people that I work with in the maintenance team are easy to get on with.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a wide range of different skills while being my apprenticeship. These skills include a variety of different engineering skills across a lot of different areas of engineering. In the college side of things I have learnt a lot of maths, engineering theory, design techniques and also physics.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The apprenticeship has a structure to it but there can be times where I feel like there can be a bit of a lack of communication on some topics. Overall though the structure works well enough and most of time is relatively organised so it is not the end of the world.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We receive good support and it is known that if we do require additional support, weather it has to do with with topics in work or out of work, we can get the support. The managers care about how the apprentices are getting on in the workplace and if the work environment that they are in is the right one for them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Some of the teachers can be very helpful and good at teaching us the information that we require to complete the college courses. Other tutors are not so helpful as they dont come from a teaching background. If I was going to suggest an improvement that could be done is to get more tutors from a teaching background.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
A lot of what we learn in the college and completed in the workshop in the first year I do not think will be particularly useful when I go in to my final job role. Although I gained a general overview of engineering basics, most of what i have learnt that will apply to my job role is not through completing my qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are always opportunities to get involved in extra curricular activities. This can range anywhere from charity work all the way to football and other sports teams. These extra curricular activities offer good opportunities to network within the business and also gain skill that you might not learn in the workplace.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend this apprenticeship to my friends and also my family as it offers a good valuable qualification and a good well paying job is offered at the end of the apprenticeship. The work is enjoyable and fun if you are in to engineering and there is good job satisfaction.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Make sure that you apply yourself to the job role and try your best in everything that you do. Do not be nervous about talking to and working with new people. Try and enjoy the work as much as possible as it will make your life better and you will produce better results.
