Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
A one-day insight day consisting of a range of sessions delivered by EY employees and keynote speakers. In these sessions, we learned about life at EY, a career in Strategy & Transactions, key themes such as personal branding, and Diversity and Inclusion at EY. We had the opportunity to ask a panel of EY employees specific questions concerning the specific sub-service lines. We also had an interactive Case Study session, where we were split into smaller groups to work on a case study.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I thoroughly enjoyed learning about life at EY - their culture seems so friendly and all the speakers were incredibly welcoming. We were given an excellent overview of Strategy and Transactions by a highly knowledgeable and friendly EY Partner, who also explained each sub-service line within S&T. There was also a panel Q&A of about 8 EY employees, who worked in different service lines. The day was highly comprehensive and we were given lots of opportunities to ask questions

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Since this insight day consisted largely of watching sessions, it was harder to learn new skills or develop existing ones. However, the Case Study session was an excellent networking opportunity and also allowed me to develop my analytical skills when approaching the Case Study.
Also, since the recruitment process was a strengths-based recruitment process (psychometric tests and a job simulation), this gave a pretty good idea of the kind of skills we need for this career

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture at EY seems incredibly friendly. All of the members of staff was happy to answer questions and the atmosphere through the day was really positive - it certainly made me want to work there in the future. Since it was part of the Women in Business series, all of the speakers were female and the insight day was truly empowering to attend. I learnt about EY's Women's Network and what it's like to be a women in finance

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. Not only did we learn lots of the division, but it also empowered me as a woman. EY also sent a lovely welcome gift in the post with some merchandise in which was a lovely touch. All of my questions were answered and I also got to meet a few others (albeit virtually) on the programme. All in all, the experience was great and definitely encourages me to apply to EY in the future

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
EY has a strengths-based recruitment process and so it's so important that you read up and understand their values, and keep this in mind when answering the questions. I feel like answering honestly is really important too - don't say what you think they want! Finally, the EY website has a wealth of information so make sure to go through it. I would particularly recommend their vision/values, the service line you want to work in and the news section too.
