Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The first day introduced us to the company and its diversity and inclusion initiatives. There were guest speakers and it was very jam packed! The second day involved a little but more on D&I as well as an amazing celebration event via zoom. It was a real treat after a long 2 days of information and I really appreciated the effort that went into organising the event. I really recommend having a notepad and pen out!
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Although it was a bit repetitive we had a breakdown of all the service lines on both the first and second day of the programme. We also got an insight from people working in these roles as well as skills that align with the roles themselves. We additionally got a general talk about the skills and core values that EY look for in candidates for internships and graduate roles as well as roles further on in our careers.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
There were 2 career development based sessions that were held across the 2 days. The first was about building your brand by Bianca Miller from the apprentice. It was very interactive and really got us thinking about how we pitch ourselves. Coming up with an elevator pitch was especially useful. The second day involved a critical thinking workshop with Bianca too. This had an interactive breakout room element on microsoft teams where we were encouraged to think critically as a team.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
So welcoming. There is a huge emphasis on belonging and this certainly came through, especially after our talk from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who described how being made to feel welcome is one of the most important things to EY. I really appreciated how friendly everybody was prior to the programme but also during the programme. I really hope to meet the staff in person one day and hopefully see everyone on the internship. If friendly is what you look for, EY is where to find it.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
A lot of effort was put into making the events as interactive as possible despite it being all virtual in the middle of a pandemic. The talk and sessions by Bianca miller in particular kept us on our toes and I especially enjoyed interacting with my fellow candidates in breakout rooms. The celebration event was extremely fun. It was like a virtual escape room and the external company who organised it were extremely enthusiastic! This comes down to you really engaging though.

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
I would really recommend practicing numerical reasoning tests and perhaps situational judgement tests. these will come into play during the recruitment process. Ultimately, I recommend being yourself. When you try to come up with answers you think will be appreciated, you come across as disingenuous and EY is very accepting of different personalities so don't hide behind a fake one! Really do your research on the company and whether you actually want to apply, otherwise it might be a boring 2 days!
