Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a software developer, my day to day consists of going to meeting about projects progress, coding to add new features to the applications, as well as learning new technologies and incorporating them into my code.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
As the placement progressed I have been given more responsibilities. To start with I was made familiar with the projects and given small tasks as I got more comfortable with all the code I have been given multiple bigger projects to work on.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have further developed my skills of Java, maven, git, sql and spring. Also I have learnt a lot of new skills such as using elastic search, jms, mockito and React. I have also further developed my communication and problem solving skills.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I have been given a lot of guidance throughout the year. I would have a catch up with my manager on a daily to make sure I am doing ok and not getting stuck on anything. The other people in the team were always ready to help if I had any queries. As well as this I also had a buddy and a mentor to help me with any other queries I had.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone is very friendly and happy to talk and help you out. There is a really good work/life balance. Every Thursday there are terrace drinks which allows you to network with a lot of people. Also the company has got a lot of societies you can join, such as public speaking society. There are also occasional quizzes and other events.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have enjoyed it very much, it was a very positive experience for me. I really enjoyed the work I was giving and I liked that I was pushed to learn new things and develop my skills further. I would come back to this company.

What advice would you give to others applying to Nomura
The most important thing is being passionate about what you do and have the skills to back it up. During the interviews if you are given a problem solving question talk your way through it they want to see your mind process.
