Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am an audit apprentice, so I assist with smaller parts of audits. I am usually coached by an assistant manager and a higher grade apprentice, and I am assigned tasks to do, part of which often involves communicating with clients to get the information we need.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find the work I do quite varied and interesting, and the best part of the programme for me is definitely all the different people I meet and work with.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My technical skills in audit and maths have really improved, including my spreadsheet knowledge in particular. I have become much better at working in a team and communicating any issues I'm having to other people.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I am confident I know what is expected of me and I know when my college time and exams are. I always find the communication around any course information really helpful and well-timed.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Monthly manager catch-ups and having at least one person on every work team there to coach me makes me feel very supported, both with any in-work issues and any external ones.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider has been very helpful in explaining what is expected of me, and the staff are always there to answer any questions I have.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I use the content I have covered in college in my job on a day-to-day basis.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am part of multiple social networks, and I'm part of the apprentice support network. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved in different social activities and initiatives.

I feel very supported by my employer, and the people I work with are so diverse and always offer a different, unique perspective.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?

Have confidence in your own abilities, because they aren't looking for someone who is the perfect auditor: they want someone who works well in a team and is eager to learn.
