Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Attended talks about personal brand, the S&T division, a graduate panel to ask further questions about the individual roles within S&T and a keynote speaker session about diversity. We also had the opportunity to work in small groups on a case study to identify the problems within a firm in terms of cost and revenue risks and come to a conclusion about potential services EY could offer. This was incredibly interesting and helped me meet other students on the course.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
We were encouraged to ask as many questions as possible. We received a talk about the division itself and how Strategy and Transactions is split up into individual sectors, which was very helpful. We were also able to to discuss with the panel and ask more in depth questions about how current trends, like ESG, have affected Strategy and Transactions, which further developed our understanding about the division and the roles available. This has motivated me to apply to S&T.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I was able to develop my communication skills through working on the case study. The case study session also developed my problem solving skills and teamwork skills. Being able to engage in the personal brand talk also enabled me to build confidence. Asking questions during sessions also helped me develop my communication skills. Meeting with other students on the programme also helped develop my networking skills and I was also able to do that with some of the interaction with members of EY.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Company culture was very supportive of us asking many questions and always willing to help us understand complex concepts. A heavy emphasis on diversity and inclusion was also very encouraging to see and definitely motivates me to pursue a career at EY. EY also presented itself as a meritocratic environment. I would be motivated to apply to EY following this because the environment is presented to be very helpful and supportive of professional development, which is definitely somewhere I can see myself working in the future.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight programme. The external speakers were incredibly engaging and presented very thought-provoking sessions. Hearing from members of EY within Strategy and Transactions was also incredibly insightful and they broke down difficult concepts into something easy to understand. I definitely have a better understanding of Strategy and Transactions now. I also enjoyed speaking with other students on my programme and discussing a case study with them as it allowed me to hear their ideas.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
Make sure to research EY and its values to ensure that you are aware of the company culture and whether it aligns with your own values. Include any previous experiences with EY, e.g. work experience or any talks you've heard at school/university to show your engagement with the company. Include experiences related to the division you're applying to so that you show active interest in that area. Practice numerical tests online beforehand if you can find some.
