Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It was one day. In the morning, we had some talks introducing us to EY as a firm and also about Tax at EY. We had a talk and Q&A session with a female tax partner which was incredibly useful. We also received a talk about EY's Diversity and Inclusion policies. In the afternoon, we completed a case study exercise in breakout rooms and were given a debrief about the case. We also had other sessions such as building our personal brand.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
They gave us a lot of information about tax and the sub-teams within tax. Through the case study, we were also able to learn more about what working in tax looks like and what projects we are likely to be working on if we are part of the Tax team at EY. Following the insight day, EY also provided us with an extra information pack with all of the opportunities available in tax such as the different summer internships.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes, I was able to gain more insight into how to tackle a real-life case study which may be useful for future interviews. I learned about personal branding and how we should present ourselves not just visually but also in the way we speak. I improved my networking skills. Through the application process, I was also able to tackle a case study which helped me to improve my business skills. Most importantly, I learned more about tax and what a career in this service line can look like

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and general atmosphere seemed very friendly and welcoming, and the EY employees were able to transmit this well, even in a virtual environment. They were extremely helpful and understanding, which is especially needed in a virtual environment where technical difficulties are extremely likely. However, they were very reassuring and helped us through the entire process. It seems like EY really does care about students and is willing to give us amazing opportunities to advance our careers.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight day. I feel like the whole team at EY really tried their hardest to organise an interesting day for us, which can be difficult in a virtual environment. It was great to get an insight into Tax, a service line which is not very spoken about and it was great to get more of an insight at EY and the opportunities that they offer to students and graduates. The guest speakers were also amazing and very engaging!

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
Please apply! The application process was really interesting, a lot more than at other companies. I thoroughly enjoyed the online assessments which included situational judgement, case studies and some maths. The online application form was straightforward and it is great that EY uses the RARE recruitment form so that they can contextualise your achievements! The whole application process was relatively straightforward, which I think is really important as this program is aimed at first year or second year students and for many it will be their first job application.
