2.8/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Assisting audit teams with general audit procedures along with other more complex tasks, including completing workpapers, AQTPs and screens for different areas of the audit.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well structured and accommodates for any failed or deferred exams that could conflict with work commitments. KPMG do take a strong approach to prioritising exams over work, which is incredibly helpful due to the difficult nature of these exams.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have definitely developed my analytical thinking skills and my level of professional scepticism, but most importantly my Excel skills have increased massively since I began my apprenticeship in 2021.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is fairly well structured, the breaks between exams are good, but exams and tuition do feel a bit rushed when the time comes to sit these exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
There is support from the employer in terms of allowing time off to study, but not much assistance in relation to exam support and helping with the revision and knowledge skills check for exams.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The training provider provides a lot more support than my employer, with achievement ladder steps and practice assessments always being available, along with a forum to post questions onto with qualified professionals answering those queries.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
The training is beneficial for sure, but due to my work being audit based, and the lack of audit exams, the knowledge acquired can't always be used in my day-to-day work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are definitely lots of extra-curricular activities to be a part of, along with many social events during the year to assist with my networking ability, which I enjoy a lot.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a great place to work if you are a sociable person, and I feel that there is genuine care for people's wellbeing a lot of the time, whereas that isn't always guaranteed at jobs that require busy season hours.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Apply for as many apprenticeships as possible to begin with. In terms of being more KPMG specific, sell yourself in a way that presents you as a good team player with the ability to solve problems on your own.
