Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am currently completing placements at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, meaning I am moving around different departments gaining an understanding for them. I have 1 hour at the end of each day to complete any outstanding college work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I do enjoy my working program, there are definitely aspects that require improvement but I am enjoying going to work and gaining new skills.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many skills at work, however not many skills within my home department yet as during my time at work, I have only spent a few days there. CCG have taught me many valuable skills that will give me a good start at work.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Organisation is an aspect that needs to improve. I sometimes feel frustrated at the lack of this. For example, I sometimes struggle to get hold of my managers when I need them or want to ask something (however I understand they are busy) and feel we are left with nothing to do even after asking what tasks we can do. Also, when we are required to come in when there is no production, we are often left wondering what we are meant to be doing which feels a waste of a commute when we could be set work from college to complete at home. Other than this, I feel the organisation is good, much better than when we first began.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from CCG, my training provider. However, not so much from my employer. Chichester college group give continuous support and will always help us when we need it, often helping to arrange us some work to complete when Rolls-Royce fail to which is really helpful. If I have an issue, I am more likely to ask my college before Rolls-Royce.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

As I have just mentioned, I receive a lot of support from my training provider and I have no complaints. My tutor always goes above and beyond to offer any support and ensures he explains the task step by step so we have a clear understanding. We are able to contact his phone at any time for assistance when needed and he puts in a lot of effort to help us.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I do feel that my qualification (lean manufacturing) is beneficial to me as it shows me the correct and most efficient way to work and has shown me many valuable skills. I find lean manufacturing interesting and therefore enjoy applying it to my day to day role at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, at work we have many curricular activities that we are able to take part in regularly, these include team building, workshops or networking events. There are opportunities to take part in careers fairs, school events etc that you can sign up for. I feel more team building days would be beneficial.

Rolls-Royce has so many opportunities available to its employees and there are many chances to move up in the company and gain many new skills and qualifications.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Work hard, put yourself out there and sign up for extra courses, qualifications, events and network with as many people as possible. Soak up as much information as you can and make yourself useful. Enjoy the experience and try hard to make the most out of your time and show your potential in order to achieve good things.
