Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role consists of absence management with flight crew. I conduct return to works, duty of care calls, reporting and Formal processes. I support pilots while off sick and bring them back into the business ensuring they are fit and answer any questions they may have.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme with the responsibilities I have gained in my long term placement. I have worked in other areas on placement too which has given me a great understanding of the airline. I have had loads of great experiences that have helped me learn and expand my knowledge as I continue to develop my career.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed a range of skills including my confidence when speaking with new people and stakeholders around the business. I have learnt how to manage absence and become trained in wellbeing to offer support where needed with pilots.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme had a great structure to it from British Airways with 3 placements in the first year and one long term placement and the ability to complete two qualifications in 3 years. I find the learning side sometimes difficult with a lack of communication with my learning provider.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support by my employer and when in placement colleagues always are willing to help me develop and expand my knowledge skills and behaviours. If I ever have any concerns I can raise them with my manager and receive support that will help me develop.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I feel there is a lack of communication with my training provider as the workshops are online and I don’t often speak to my coach. However when learning the workshops are very intresting and I learn a lot from them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification helps me understand my role a lot better and gives an insight into lots of areas that I can take back and put to use in my role in British Airways. Having the ability to study towards CIPD is great and has definitely improved my quality of work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a lot of charity work to get involved with and has allowed me to travel to South Africa with Comic Relief. I am very grateful to have these experiences by BA and will continue to support the charities BA works with.

British Airways are a great employer and the apprenticeship can help you mould t your career to exactly how you would like it. I am always proud to represent them, With the people you work with and the great opportunities they have in every department.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
Be yourself and show what you can bring to the business. BA love new ideas and are always listening to see what can be improved on.
