Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

The first year is on a complete educational basis. I was at college 5 times a day. 4 days doing AME Level 2 Engineering courses. And 1 day of the working towards a B-tech Level 3 Engineering qualification. AME courses consisted of physical activities and assessments at the end of each sub-section. Whereas the B-tech were more research based and assignment assessed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I do thoroughly enjoy my program. I enjoy learning about engineering and how it affects reality. The way the courses are laid out gives me time to understand and recap any information. I also enjoy that within my engineering course I am learning so many different types of skills, this varies from mechanical maintenance, to fluid power, lathe operations, electrics and electronics.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Throughout the year I did develop new skills. Some of them being physical skills such as working new items/components, handling certain maintenance techniques and assembling/ disassembling and operating machinery. Other skills I have developed on have been listening and speaking. Being surrounded in a more skilled diverse environment I have managed to pick up various professional speaking skills and how to approach certain scenarios that would occur in the working environment.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program itself is very structured and organised. Within each full term we are being taught 3 b-tech subjects and 4 AME courses. Each course and subject has a different tutor which allows us to not get confused on any work being submitted. we have adequate breaks in between, this helps us regain focus.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

For the first year of the apprenticeship we are in college 5 times a day. Our manager meets with us at college once a week to give support. this meeting allows the manager to see our progression, to understand any difficulties and take note. They also answer any of our questions to the best of their ability and even provides us with support and information that could help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Our training provider does help a lot, more than just providing the information and letting us deal with the assignments. they give us training sheets and practice questions. they provide feedback for when we have a chance to improve and to be more organised many teachers keep a tracker of our progress so that we ourselves can see what stages we are at.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like the qualifications I will be receiving from my training provider will help me immensely better in my role as an engineer. The stuff I learn is directly involved with my job description as well as learning outside jobs that I may come across. It is like the training provider is ensuring I am confident in approaching any task related to, and around my job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

As a first year apprenticeship I have been in college for full time education. It is in my second year that I will be 4 days at the work plant and one day release for college. This means I am not entirely experienced with having participated in the extra curricular activities happening at work. But, for what I do know is that work employees do put together teams and social events to provide a better social networking within the BMW employees.

Because as well as the amount of learning and training you will gain, you will also make new friends and enjoy your company at the work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Try your best to portray how passionate you are about engineering, and as a bonus just remind yourself of some BMW Group facts and knowledge. For example, where do BMW Group have their factories located. This will show you are eager to become part of this environment.
