Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I currently manage a team of 9 people who each run a transformation project within the business, whether that be a new store opening, a refit, or any other ad-hoc project. My day to day role involves checking in on the guys to see what progress they have made, chasing up any issues they are facing and holding meetings with all relevant stakeholders
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoyed my programme. I was going through the process at the same time as one of my team, so it was really good once we finished each lesson, to talk it through with Dave and get his perspective on what he learnt and what he took from it too

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I think the biggest one for me was emotional intelligence. Before the course, i always had trouble putting myself in the shoes of other people but since i completed the course it has given me the skills that i need to show more empathy to me team and gain more out of my one to ones by practicing active listening

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I found the training course to be very well organised and structured. my trainer/coach laid out on the very first session what the course entailed and what we would learn each month and that is exactly what we ended up doing. The support and guidance offered throughout was second to none.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I felt that my company, and more specifically my line manager, give me all the support that i needed and then some. They were always asking how i was getting on with my course and if they can be of any help. When i needed to complete projects to build up my portfolio or to practice there was plenty of opportunities available.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As i previously stated, my trainer was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Not only was she there for any guidance and help needed, she also pushed you if she felt that you were not quite fully focused on the course which i feel helped me across the line.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Since i have completed the qualification I have been promoted from a project coordinator, to managing a team of project coordinators and I feel like the skills I learnt in the course had a massive hand in me getting the promotion. Me using skills such as presenting using PowerPoint, hosting daily meetings and holding challenging conversations with my team wouldn't have been possible without the confidence i gained throughout the qualification
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I work mainly from home or remotely, so there isn't really much scope for myself to get involved in extra curricular activities. Poundland does host regular events with their charity (Poundland foundation) though. We have an upcoming race day that has a lot of different companies attending which will offer the opportunity to network.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have worked at Poundland for 18 years and honestly could not imagine working anywhere else. The main thing that I love about working here are the opportunities for growth that are always on offer. If you are interested in progression, There is always another position to move into. I started in stores as a weekend warehouse operator and worked my way up in store to manager, then I was approached with the opportunity to sidestep out of store into the property team and i have since been promoted 3 times in 7 years.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
If anybody was thinking about applying for Poundland, my advice would be to just Do it. Although we are a little unorthodox compared to other retailers in our approach sometimes, Poundland is an amazing company to work for. We have a board of directors who genuinely put the colleagues first and try to help wherever they can.
