Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

The role of an apprentice mainly involves learning during placements in different departments. The first year of the apprenticeship is spent in a workshop learning hands foundational engineering skills. The rest of the apprenticeship is on placements, mainly shadow maintenance teams as they go to breakdowns.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the hands on aspect of the work, and enjoy socialising with the other apprentices.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills, particularly in regards to fault finding and problem solving. I have learnt how to use the a variety of different tools.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The is a clear structure to the apprenticeship. The first year is in the training workshop, there are 5, 3 month long placements is different buildings, then placements in your final building, before you go on shift.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive some support from my employer, primarily in the form of the 3 monthly reviews and feedback on submitted work. Any issues the employer has are noramally raised and rectified before they become serious problems.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider gives some support on college assignments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification that we undergo has little relevance to the roles we perform, but could be useful if for any future job roles in the company.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
