Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On Mondays, I attend classroom lessons to learn about many different aspects of the course and refresh my underpinning knowledge of subjects I already knew little bits about. The rest of the week, I am in the work area and learning how to perform maintenance activities such as welding and machining.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the fact that I feel challenged by the course and that I am constantly learning new things. I enjoy the fact that I have been able to have support with the course, if I required it. I also enjoy the fact that I am seen as an adult and am trusted to do my work on my own.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned many new skills during my time on the apprenticeship course. I have learned how to stick weld, I have learned how to operate a mill, I have learned how to operate a lathe, I have learned how to assemble gears and mechanical assemblies. I have learned how to interpret orthographic drawings/diagrams.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I feel that the structure of the course has been a bit poor to be honest. At the start of the year, there didn't seem to be enough teachers to be able to provide the correct level of teaching for all of the subjects that we were being taught. It has gotten better as the year has gone on however.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I feel that the support offered by my employer has been readily available and that if I ever needed to ask for more support on a particular subject, it would be provided. I feel that I can readily approach my training supervisor with any problems or discrepancies I may have encountered.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I feel that my training provider has been relatively helpful throughout the delivery of the course. despite the staffing issues at the start of the year. I feel that they have offered me support with subjects that I haven't fully understood to begin with. For example, I was given a 1-1 session for extra support with the fluid power subject.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel much more confident when speaking in front of a crowded room now, which will help me to give any presentations in the future. I feel very confident now, when approaching many mechanical maintenance activities based on the subjects I have learned in the workspace so far, like with the welding/mechanical subjects.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a few activities, however I would like to see more on offer. There aren't really any social activities or sports teams that are available for me to be able to get involved in. There are some professional networking events that are available, however I haven't been able to attend.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They offer extremely good rates of pay compared to many other companies. They offer me as much support as I need through the course. I feel that they have provided me with the correct guidance to be able to seamlessly fill straight in to a workplace when I finish my course.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
do not be afraid to ask for help with anything. If their are problems outside of work, do not be afraid to ask for guidance from your managers or safeguarding officers. If you do the work in class, you will not have any homework to do. Contribute to group discussions and be sociable as you will be working with the rest of your class for years.
