Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
For most of the week, i am currently in the oxford training plant doing rotations in the workshop such as welding, electrical, electronics, plc's and mechanical. on a monday i have my paperwork day for catching up on assignments, and on a thursday i have my college day where we continue with the theory education side of the apprenticeship
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
for the most part i do really enjoy what i am doing here, the people are great and the managers are accommodating. the skills i get to learn when i am in the workshop are really interesting and fun, but i would say the assignments are definately the bad side of the apprenticeship so far.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
some of the new skills i have learned are physical skills such as filing, welding, wiring and how to program PLC's. my essay writing skills have been improved, as well as referencing and research skills. i have also learned how to behave in a coorprate setting, as well as understand why things are the way they are in the workplace

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
for the most part, my time in swindon is well structured and organised. the managers here are great and are always up for helping you. however, when i am in oxford, especially due to the course being located there, it can sometimes be a bit hectic and disorganised, but it isnt bad
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
from my employer i receive constant support with weekly meetings, quarterly reviews and feedback. the managers are good at finding out what is going wrong (if anything) and how we can fix it in a constructive manner. it is also good to see that they are slowly easing us into the workplace, rather than dropping us in at the deep end
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
when working towards my qualifications, there has been temperamental support, in terms of assignments, and lack of understanding of the content itself. the tutors are happy to help, but sometimes fail to see it from my angle when i explain what i dont understand. there is room for improvements, but i am still able to achieve higher grades.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
in terms of the practical, workshop side of things, there isnt much relation to my actual role at work, as i am more of a logistical, and calculatory role in the apprenticeship. for other apprenticeships, it is a lot more useful as that is what they will be doing in the workplace. but it is still fun
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
when it comes to extracurricular activities, there is little to offer. in the company itself, there are charity groups, to plan events for the company charity, as well as christmas and holiday events. in terms if regular fun events, there isnt much to offer, but that doesnt stop you from seeing your friends outside of work

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
its a great company to work for, and is a good way to get a headstart into the industry if you are interested in it. the employer side of the 4 years is well structured and allows you to see as many elements of the business as possible, to find out where you would prefer to end up, after the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
when applying to any large company, especially a well known and respected one, its crucial that you make yourself stand out. its a desired role due to the fact that are hard to come by, and are highly competitive. so do something that draws positive attention to youself. and show an interest
