Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As an aircraft maintenance apprentice I would shadow technicians during the work helping to assist them when needed. I would look at task cards then look it up in the aircraft maintenance manual for warnings and tools needed then carrying out the task with an licensed engineer to check and supervise
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoyed how the apprenticeship was layed out and the way British Airways allowed to gain experience and get a feel for working on aircraft’s before going to resource group

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Developed a better knowledge on different parts of an aircraft and what it does and the different tools that are needed. Learnt the procedure and safety warning that go when working on an aircraft

It’s structured really well as everything is planned for the three years of the programme and the future ahead of this

Received a lot of support and I feel welcomed and supported

The training provider resource group have been really organised in terms of planning the whole course and are really knowledgeable on the module there going to teach us about. Our learning support lead Louise has been supportive in terms of letting us know who to talk to if we have problems with anything
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It allows me to develop a better knowledge of aircraft systems
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is an enrichment day where we have a range of activities and games to take part in

The apprenticeship scheme really well thought out and it a skill that you have for life and BA support you throughout and you get a job at the end of the programme

Make sure you have a passion and desire to work and learn about aircraft
