Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
To fix and maintain a wide fleet of aircraft within British Airways. I complete a wide variety of tasks both in the cabin and outside on the plane. These can be electrical or mechanical in nature and range from changing the wheel or engine, to fixing an armrest or seatcover.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme as I love aviation. This apprenticeship provides many great opportunities to improve both your knowledge and skills in the industry whilst working on some of the most impressive aircraft to date. The engineers you work with are extremely knowledgeable, patient and helpful too.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I learnt many new skills relevant to the industry such as wirelocking and tool skills as well as learnt the importance of organisation, time management and perseverance.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There is a clear structure to the programme, however, during the introduction a lot of the information was repeated and ended up becoming quite repetitive. Although all the information was important and relevant to the apprenticeship, it felt very slow progressing through the admin and training.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
British Airways have been extremely supportive straight from the start. They have given us all the tools and contacts necessary to get started with them and provided us many different contacts and links should we have any trouble.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
The opportunities in the first year are limited as you have to focus on your studies. However we do have an enrichment day and there are lots more opportunities once you have completed the first year.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
