Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My program is rotational so I change teams every 6 months to gain exposure to multiple HR teams in the bank. I’ve completed rotations in HR Business Management, People Analytics, Performance Management, Junior Talent and Reward. Each team has been very different.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Overall I enjoy it a lot - I’m able to meet new people, try new teams and gain exposure to new topics/tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Lots of new skills - eg communication, excel, presentation skills, knowledge of employment law, knowledge of HR, how to network, resilience, flexibility.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well - I have 1 study day a week dedicated to my learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Lots - I have multiple mentors, line managers and a HR Apprenticeship team that are there to answer any questions & arrange quarterly check-ins.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Also lots - I have a dedicated trainer who is always available to talk to. There are also workshops held to support with each module.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yep there are lots of networks. Eg pride, young professionals. That offer networking events, learning etc.

Why?
It’s a supportive environment with lots of learning opportunities. We’re encouraged to network and collaborate. It has an established program which helps apprentices to reach their potential.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Research the company - really figure out why UBS over other companies. Stay up to date with financial news. Think of the skills you possess that would help you in the role.
