Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a product controller within the Structural FX team. My team are responsible for managing the FX exposures for the bank. My role involves a multitude of tasks and responsibilities surrounding FX, which varies from PnL's to trading ect. On a daily basis I talk to my team which are split across London and Zurich.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my program alot, my cohort of fellow apprentices are very friendly, my team were super welcoming and instilled me with a lot of confidence by trusting me with alot of responsibility. I find the flexible working system works well, the time in the office is amazing for learning and building relationships .

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have gained a lot of new skills and knowledge on the overall banking system, finance and forex.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
In finance we are a small cohort in my year (3) but the structure is pretty well developed from previous years. We rotate teams and roles at least every two years, our learning takes place in person with the training provider and is generally a solid week of learning and not working. We also get study days before exams to revise the content and these are arranged within your team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I think there is a good level of support for apprentices from UBS and it it only growing as more apprentices join. There are 2 networks we automatically join, young professionals network (YNP) and ApprenticeNet. Apprentice net are involved in organizing events specifically for apprentices, such as networking, skill building or fun socials. We are also assigned a mentor from someone in our business division so we have someone to ask questions to, discuss future goals and expand our network.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have already mentioned 2 networks but there are a number of networks you can join depending or your interests and experience, there is something for everyone. Within the business divisions there are working groups which have specific focuses, I'm involved in the Sustainability working group we meet once a month and generally have 3 targets. There are alot of networking opportunities, if you prefer smaller groups there are coffee roulettes, or if you prefer bigger groups there are lunches, evening events ect.

Recommendations & Advice

Yes
Why?
I think they have a good culture and focus on their 3 pillars in all areas of the bank.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Be yourself, this will make the whole process easier. Before applying do your research, figure out your own priorities, values and then once you've established these then look for companies which match them and make sure to highlight those similarities in your application.
