Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Working on an Electronic Execution Desk, I often spending my day using data to identify trading opportunities, producing stats/metric re trading activity. I also actively support the desk with settlement/operational issues as well as client enablement.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I very much enjoy the programme, sometimes I feel the content provided by the vendor/supplier could be a little more challenging in part but overall it is stimulating enough. The work aspect I definitely enjoy more - it's an extremely collaborative and fast paced environment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed data/coding/excel skillset quite substantially.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I think its organised quite well. Within the workplace, there could be more structure regarding rotation opportunity in the programme. With regards to training supplier, the programme is structured clearly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
The bank is relatively supportive. From what I have experienced, they are willing to spend time to listen to your feedback. If you want some support however, you will have to chase them, they will not come asking if you need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I think the provider provides a good level of support with necessary reading material / support and is willing to spend extra time should you need it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The CFA content primarily will provide the bulk of the knowledge of the programme, and definitely is useful on a day to day basis. Given we as apprentices can't directly enagage in regulate activity (recommending/advising/executing etc), there is a limit to how much we can extract.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
They often provide some general networking events to meet with senior managers within the bank. There are also opportunities to speak with external industry leaders on a less frequent basis.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Definitely an inclusive, open work environment looking to hear all ideas from all people. I feel they try and give you responsibility early on, although this could be particular to just my experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Do your prep - research the bank, what it does, what does it do well in, are there any recent news stories that are important. Also, have a relatively good understanding of what markets are like at the time (are stock markets performing well, what are central banks doing)
