Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in Group Treasury FX Product control to manage the risk of UBS FX exposures. I support the centralised sell-down process, communicate with the front desk and offshore team, analyse trading activity and review daily P&L reporting outputs to ensure integrity.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It is good. Very enjoyable and flexible, challenging at times but there is a lot of support.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed analysis skills. Strengthened communication skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Had a lot of support from apprenticeship team and mentors in first year and regular catch ups to raise and questions or concerns. Training provider was not always the best and communication was sometimes poor, however, this seems to have improved in the second year.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Good amount of support and many points of contact if we have concerns.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Have seen a significant improvement in the support the training provider has given when working towards my AAT qualification. Some challenges and poor communication in the beginning but this seems to have improved.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Somewhat helpful. It is sometimes difficult to relate the accounting qualification to our day to day role, however, it has helped significantly to understand terminology and processes etc. Particularly in my new role, I have seen a lot of correlation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Social activities and network events are relatively frequent and UBS are good at encouraging participation and meeting new people.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good opportunities and lots of support. Great way to gain a qualification and develop new skills. Chance to gain a broad knowledge in banking and finance and many mobility/rotation opportunities to diversify your skillset.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Prepare to do some independent research to help understand basic finance/banking terminology. Be organised and efficient with work and learn how to prioritise tasks.
